editorial services

  • You finished your draft, but something’s missing? I can help!

The Editorial Assessment reviews the big-picture elements that drive your plot, pacing, and character development.

    INCLUDES:

    • A memo with detailed chapter-by-chapter feedback (typically 6 to 10 pages)

    • Comments in the manuscript margin where relevant

    • Follow-up availability through email, phone, or Zoom to discuss the suggestions and next steps

INVESTMENT: $0.01 to $0.012 per word

  • The Comprehensive Edit combines the bulk of the process into one service.

    INCLUDES:

    • A comprehensive review of your manuscript with tracked line edits, copy edits, and developmental comments

    • A separate memo with detailed developmental feedback (typically 3 to 6 pages)

Line editing involves refinements at the sentence and paragraph levels to make your prose shine. Each word should add value, moving your story forward and bringing your vision to life. This includes (but is not limited to) grammar and syntax, rhythm and pacing, voice, POV, tense, and dialogue.

Copy editing polishes your manuscript to technical perfection, eliminating any distracting inconsistencies that prevent readers from fully immersing. Cafe or café? Stephanie or Stefanie? En dash, em dash, or hyphen?

Developmental editing concerns the big-picture elements that drive your plot, pacing, and character development.

INVESTMENT: $0.01 to $0.012 per word

If you do not want developmental feedback, I can leave it out. Please note that this service does not include a final proofread—although I will naturally catch most typos during the process. I offer a final proofreading pass at a discounted rate of $0.005 per word.

  • The last step in your editing process is a copy edit and proofread. If you’ve reached this stage, congrats—you’re so close!

The Final Pass spots typos, grammatical errors, and technical inconsistencies.

If you’re already working with me on your manuscript, I offer this service at a discounted rate.

INVESTMENT: $0.005 per word for existing clients or $0.009 per word as a stand-alone service

  • In the past, I have worked with clients on:

    • Query letter and synopsis review

    • Brainstorming story elements like plot, characterization, and worldbuilding

    • Book coaching with regular accountability check-ins

    • Custom writing prompts

    • Edit-as-you-go (priced by the word)

I recommend email communication so you get the most out of the time. However, I understand sometimes you need to talk through things live! I’m available to connect via Zoom or phone if you prefer.

INVESTMENT: $50 per hour stand-alone, $40 per hour as an add-on service.

  • I offer editing and copywriting services for websites, LinkedIn pages, blog posts, marketing resources, training materials, etc. at a rate of $50/hour. Email me about your project!

philosophy

My goal as an editor is to understand your vision and guide your story to its strongest, most immersive version. I edit with the intent of helping your work reach its widest audience and greatest chance of success.

I will compete a free sample edit of 1,000 to 2,000 words before booking to ensure we're a great match!

Your story, your voice:

It’s your novel! I’m just one of the lucky people working alongside you on your journey to publishing. Maintaining your voice is my first priority, and I will never make changes without a clear reason. Ultimately, my edits are merely suggestions to inform and empower you to decide what works best for your manuscript.

Creating an immersive reading experience:

To me, the mark of a great book is an all-consuming escape—when the characters and setting stick with me so firmly that I find myself thinking about them long after the last page. But how do writers achieve that? It’s a balancing act between including what matters and removing what distracts. In addition to a gripping story and captivating character arcs, your novel needs purposeful prose and clean copyediting to help your readers get (happily) lost.

Trust and transparency:

This one is simple. I recognize editing is a huge (and exciting!) milestone, but it can be nerve-racking to share your work. I keep my feedback honest, tactful, and actionable, and I always treat your manuscript with the time and respect it deserves.
